Ramalinga Raju To Be Produced In Court Today
B Ramalinga Raju, the founder-chairman of Satyam Computer, and his brother Rama Raju, who were arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police on Friday night, were questioned by the police throughout the night.
Police questioned the two for more than three hours, Raju’s lawyer Bharat Kumar said on Saturday morning. The Crime branch of Andhra Pradesh booked the two after questioning under charges of fraud, forgery.
Bharat Kumar said that the two have been booked under Section 120 b (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 406, 467 and 427 (criminal breach of trust, forgery and using forged documents as genuine).
Raju surrendered to the police on Friday night and was arrested for criminal fraud.
Through the day, there was a strong buzz in Hyderabad that Raju, who had gone underground since his confession of a Rs 7,000 crore fraud on Wednesday, would be arrested around midnight. Speculations were rife that he might have fled to Dubai or the United States.
Eventually, Raju and his brother drove down in two Mercedes Benz limos to the DGP’s office. They were arrested under sections 420, 406, 120B and 471.
That the screws were tightening on the Satyam management was clear earlier in the evening when the government superseded the board of directors of Satyam, signalling that it had no faith in the existing board members.
In fact, sources said the board members were not above suspicion for possible involvement in the fraud. The Andhra Pradesh police filed a case of fraud against Raju even as an impression was gaining ground that CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy was going soft on him.
